Ex-South African President Jacob Zuma to face corruption trial related to $2.5bn deal

Former South African president Jacob Zuma will face trial for corruption.

The 77-year-old, who was president from 2009 to 2018, is accused of taking bribes from a French arms manufacturer relating to a $2.5bn (£1.78bn) deal in the 1990s which took place while he was deputy president.

Oh dear! Zuma drives South Africa’s economy into recession

Hello! Don't look at the smiles up here as South Africa’s economy, one of Africa’s biggest has gone into recession after two negative growths in two successive quarters.
A 0.7 percent decline in GDP in the first quarter of this year followed a 0.3 percent contraction in the last quarter of 2016, means that South Africa joins Nigeria to battle for economy recovery.

Nigeria - Amidst the rumors that Donald Trump called Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and South African President Jacob Zuma, CNN confirms that the US president called the two African leaders.
Trump spent Monday morning, February 13, calling two of Africa's most prominent leaders to discuss combating terrorism, trade relations and other issues.

Nigeria - President Donald Trump is expected to speak with President Muhammadu Buhari and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa as part of the Africa Day celebration.
Geoffrey York who is the Africa correspondent for The Globe disclosed this via his twitter page.
President Buhari is in London, UK where he is on extended medical leave after he postponed his return to Nigeria citing medical reasons.
According to York, Trump will call Buhari first before speaking with his South African counterpart.
