Relief as Governors Fayemi and Umahi recover from COVID-19

Nigeria - Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti state, says he has recovered from COVID-19 after spending 11 days in isolation.

In a tweet on Saturday, Fayemi said a subsequent COVID-19 test he took came back negative.
While thanking God, well wishers and his medical team for his recovery, the governor called for more efforts to tackle the pandemic.
“After 11 days in isolation, I received news that my COVID-19 repeat test came back negative,” he tweeted.
“My sincere gratitude goes to God Almighty, my family, my medical team and all well wishers for the prayers and solidarity. We must continue to do all we can to tackle the pandemic. JKF.”
On July 22, Fayemi, who is the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), announced that he had contracted the virus.
Fayemi joins a list of governors who have tested positive for the virus, including Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna.
So far, Ekiti has confirmed 132 cases of COVID-19, out of which 55 recoveries and two deaths have been recorded.
In a related development, David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi, has also recovered from COVID-19.
In a statement issued on Friday, the governor disclosed that his daughter and three of his aides who contracted the virus, have also tested negative.
On July 4, Umahi had announced that himself, his daughter, and three of his aides, tested positive for COVID-19.
While calling on the people to cooperate with government to contain the spread of the virus, he thanked them for their support.
