Maxine Waters has slammed Donald Trump as a "99% liar" for saying that 99% of Covid-19 cases are harmless.
“We have tested over 40 million people. By so doing, we show cases, 99 percent of which are totally harmless. Results that no other country will show, because no other country has testing that we have — not in terms of the numbers or in terms of the quality," Donald Trump remarked at the White House on July 4.
Trump's aides had trouble explaining the president's statement as they tried to defend him.
“The president isn’t downplaying the severity of the virus,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters July 6 when questioned about his statistic. “What the president is noting is that, at the height of this pandemic, we were at 2,500 deaths per day. We are now at a place where, on July Fourth, there were 254; that’s a tenfold decrease in mortality.”
Reacting to his statement, Maxine Waters, US Representative for California's 43rd congressional district, tweeted: "Trump said 99% of #COVID19 cases are harmless. Trump is a 99% LIAR! First he called it a hoax, then told people to drink disinfectant; then he said it would disappear. Where are the masks, gloves, & PPE? Everyone knows Trump is a liar. Ignore his advice! We’ll get him out in Nov!"
She added on Instagram: "Trump is a 99% liar. Wear your masks!"
