AIPS America has been a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic, not only due to the economic downturn that has inflicted job losses, but also in the most painful way - claiming the lives of twenty colleagues, seven from Ecuador and thirteen from Peru.
They were honored during the very first virtual session of the AIPS America executive committee. At the start of the videoconference, a minute of silence was observed as tribute to them.
Those who have died from March to date, according to official reports, are: Manuel Adolfo Varas (Ecuador), Luis Alberto Flores (Ecuador), Walter Espinel Jaramillo (Ecuador), Roberto RomĂĄn Valencia (Ecuador), Gerardo Mosquera RodrĂguez (Ecuador), Elio Armas (Ecuador), Jorge Iturburu (Ecuador), VĂctor Ătalo Valverde (Peru), Lilian DĂĄvila Portocarrero (Peru), Julio Abarca DurĂĄn (Peru), RaĂșl Arias Almaraz (Peru), Belisario Marocho Cano (Peru), Carlos Cuba Aguilar (Peru), Sindefredo Moncada Silva (Peru), MĂĄximo Huapaya Adriazola (Peru), Gregorio Graus LĂłpez (Peru), VĂctor Mantilla Marreros (Peru), Ăscar SĂĄnchez Nuñez (Peru), Juan Buckana Romero (Peru) and Hugo Wong GarcĂa (Peru).

In addition, the Bolivian press has confirmed the death of Jacinto Quispe, a producer and cameraman, due to Covid-19.
Quispe, who went through various media in the country and, in recent times, was covering sports events, died in Santa Cruz - the city most affected by the pandemic in that country.
In Peru, journalist RaĂșl Dreyfus has died at the age of 96, due to a heart problem. RaĂșl was one of the most relevant and experienced sports journalists in Peru.
