Mercy NNenda Chinwo is a Nigerian gospel musician, actress and songwriter from Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She started her musical career at a very early age and has gone on to win the hearts of Christian-songs lovers in Nigeria and beyond.

Mercy Chinwo’s early life and musical career

Mercy Chinwo was born on 5 September in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. For now there’s no information regarding her year of birth. We believe the right interview with her will one day reveal this detail. Mercy is the first child in a family of six children.

The singer joined children choir at a very young age, which proved instrumental to the star she has become today.

Mercy Chinwo entered limelight in 2012 after winning the Season 2 of popular talent show, Nigerian Idol.

She subsequently signed a record deal with Eezee Conceptz record label, owned by Mr. Ezekiel ThankGod (Eezee Tee). Eezee Tee also manages popular singers including Frank Edwards, Preye Odede and Hilda Dokubo.

Before officially launching her musical career, she lent her voice to popular artists including Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan, and Preye.

In 2015, Mercy Chinwo released her first single titled “Testimony”. She followed it up a year later with the release of another single titled “Igwe”.

So far, the song that has arguably won her more recognition is “Excess Love”, which she released in June 2018. Excess love earned her nationwide recognition and sealed her status as one of the best vocalists in Nigerian Gospel music industry.

Mercy Chinwo’s Family: Husband, Children, Siblings?


For now, the singer is not married. She also doesn’t have any children that we know of.

But as we earlier stated, she has 5 siblings, and she’s the first-born child of her parents.

She lost her father at a very young age therefore her mother is her only surviving biological parent.

After winning the Nigerian Idols in 2012, Mercy Chinwo delved into acting and featured in Yvonne Nelson’s film, House of Gold. She starred alongside, Majid Michel, Omawumi and Yvonne Nelson herself.

In 2018, Mercy Chinwo the award for Best Gospel Artiste at the CLIMAX Awards 2018. 

In 2019, at the maiden edition of the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST 2019) she won awards in 3 different categories for her song “Excess Love” beating the likes of Sinach, Prospa Chimana and Tim Godfrey.
