Nigeria - Twelve patients, including a Ukrainian, who received treatment for COVID-19 in Lagos state have been discharged after recovering from the disease.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, broke the news on Thursday evening. He said while six patients were discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, five recovered at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and one from an isolation facility at Ibeju-Lekki.
The development brings to 199, the total number of patients who have been discharged in Lagos, the state with the highest number of COVID-19 cases.
Lagos has 947 of Nigeria’s 1,728 COVID-19 cases. 20 COVID-19 patients have died in Lagos, the latest being a 25-year-old male whose death was announced earlier on Thursday.
At the presidential task force on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said the state needs to increase bed spaces as part of efforts to boost capacity in terms of isolating confirmed COVID-19 cases.
