Knife wielding man shot dead after killing 4 police officers during an attack inside Paris police headquarters

Four police officers have been killed in a knife attack at the police headquarters in Paris.

The attacker, who worked in the building, was shot dead at the scene.
The Cite Metro station, near the scene of the attack, has been shut down for security reasons.
The attack is believed to have happened at about 1pm local time at the police building - located just across from Notre Dame Cathedral.
The motive for the attack is unclear.

France's interior minister and the Paris prosecutor were heading to the scene..

A report suggested it may have been a civilian worker at the headquarters who carried out the attack.

The attack took place near the Notre Dame on the Ile de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of the French capital. The premises has since been cordoned off and emergency services were quickly at the scene.

The metro station of Cité, near the headquarters of the Paris Police, has now been shut down.
