Oh gosh! Suspected graduate robber burnt to death

Nigeria - An alleged graduate of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUAM) in Makurdi, Unom Azenda Bagu, has been burnt to death by angry mob at Ikurav-ya community of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State on suspicion of robbery.

Suspected graduate robber burnt to death

Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), for the Benue Command, Moses Joel Yamu, who confirmed the incident on Friday in Makurdi said that Bagu was set ablaze before the police got to the scene of incident.

Yamu explained that a group of armed robbers went to Ikuravya Community Secondary School, Ikyogen, bursary office and made away with undisclosed amount of cash on Wednesday and that one of the robbers later identified as Unom Azenda Bagu was caught by angry mob and set ablaze.

He said that the police frowned seriously against jungle justice and warned the public to desist from doing so as anyone caught in the act would be dealt with in line with the laws.

Daily Trust reports that a witness in the community where the incident took place revealed that the late Bagu obtained a degree in Agric-Economics earlier this year from the College of Agricultural Economics and Extension in FUAM and was awaiting his call up letter for the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).

The witness alleged that the deceased popularly referred to as Moses Bagu was known to have been terrorising people of his home town, the kurav-ya community for quite sometimes alongside his other gang members until luck ran out of him few days ago when he was caught and lynched to death by a mob action.

The suspected graduate robber was believed to have operated under curse as witnesses alleged that he seldom stole worthless items that he was capable of affording for himself, adding that the deceased knew he had such problem but couldn't find solution to it before he was hacked to death.

Contacted, FUAM's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Joseph Fanafa, said that the deceased's name could not be found among those awaiting NYSC and that if he was among the December, 2016 graduates of the institution, then he should have already being serving at his primary place of assignment and not idle at his hometown at the time of the incident.
