Young Mbappe and Ronaldo in 2012 |
Kylian Mbappe’s decision to snub Real Madrid for Paris Saint-Germain, scuppered Manchester United’s hopes of bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Sunday Times reports that Ronaldo would have been reunited with the Red Devils this summer, if Mbappe had chosen a move the European champions.
The Blancos were willing to let an unhappy Ronaldo return to Old Trafford, if they secured highly-prized Monaco striker Mbappe as a replacement.
However, the 18-year-old and his father reportedly did not want the player, to be burdened with the responsibility of being Ronaldo’s direct successor at Real so early in his career.
PSG have confirmed that Mbappe will join them from Monaco on a season-long loan. The loan agreement includes an option for PSG to sign him on a permanent deal until June 2022.
Mbappe’s fee is expected to top €150million and the teenage striker will sign a bumper deal, that will land him a 1900% pay rise.
The France international who currently earns £16,000 at the Principality, was offered a £120,000-a-week deal by Real Madrid. But will earn £320,000-a-week at PSG.
