Nigeria - The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi has rejected his purported nomination for an award by the Rivers State Government.
The Minister of Transportation said he had been inundated with calls and enquiries about a purported award from Governor Nyesom Wike.
Reports spread earlier this week that Amaechi, who is the immediate-past Governor of Rivers State, had been named among other individuals to be honoured by Governor Wike for their contributions to the development of the state.
But in a statement released by the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office, the former Governor described the purported award and honour by Wike as “a poisoned chalice”.
It further noted that Amaechi was shown a publication by the Rivers State Government on the list of proposed awardees, adding that he was “yet to receive a formal communication from Governor Wike or the State.”
The Amaechi media office noted that whatever Governor Wike intends to give to Amaechi “amounts to a poisoned chalice and therefore stands rejected.”
Amaechi further reminded Governor Wike to go to court, like he vowed, to prove his claim that the sum of over forty-three million dollars recovered by the EFCC from a luxury apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos was stolen from Rivers State by the past government.
