Nigeria - Suicide attempt again after a medical doctor took his life by jumping off the Third Mainland Bridge into the Lagos lagoon yesterday, an unidentified woman tried to go the same way.
The woman jumped into the lagoon from Maza-Maza bridge in the Miile 2 area of Lagos. The unidentified woman was however lucky as rescuers fished her out before she could drown.
According to a witness, the woman, dressed in a blouse and black trousers, was trekking and got to the middle of the bridge, climbed the rail and jumped off.
“The thing happened so fast that we could not stop her. However when she jumped, we called for help, prompting people under the bridge to dive in and rescue her”, said one of the witnesses who gave his name as Emeka.
When reporters got to the scene, the woman was lying unconscious by the lagoon, while her rescuers tried to press her bloated belly to expel the excess water she took in before her rescue.
one of the rescuers, Adewale, narrated further,
“We were under the bridge when the woman’s body dropped from the bridge. At first we thought she was either pushed or fell over by mistake.
“We had to jump into the river and rescue her”.
Though the identity of the woman could not be ascertained before going to the press, it was gathered that she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the police who were called to the scene by concerned citizens.
