Serena Williams has beaten her sister Venus in the Australian Open final, winning a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam.
The 35-year-old American swept past her greatest rival 6-4, 6-4 at the Rod Laver Arena for her seventh Melbourne Park crown.
She surpassed Germany's Steffi Graf's 22 Grand Slam titles in the Open-era, 18 years after winning her first.
However, she still trails Margaret Court of Australia who won 24 times, but 13 of her titles were before women's tennis turned professional.
Court was in the president's box to witness Williams' success.
The victory also restored Williams to the world number one spot, pushing Angelique Kerber who had held the ranking since September.
