What does your smartphone say about your personality? According to a university study, it's actually quite a lot.
Researchers from the University of Lincoln found that people who buy phones running Google's Android operating system are seen as more honest and humble than those who pick iPhones.
Heather Shaw, from University of Lincoln's School of Psychology, and her fellow researchers conducted two studies between iPhone and Android smartphone users.
During the first study 240 participants were asked to complete a questionnaire about the characteristics they associate with users of each smartphone brand.
It found that Android users were perceived to have greater levels of honesty and humility, were seen as kinder, more open and less extroverted than iPhone users.
A second study saw the stereotypes tested against the personality traits of more than 500 smartphone users, using another questionnaire.
Android users were found to be more honest and humble, however the other perceived personality stereotypes did not occur.
Miss Shaw said: "This study provides new insights into personality differences between different types of smartphone users.
"Smartphone choice is the most basic level of smartphone personalisation, and even this can tell us a lot about the user.
"Imagine if we further researched how personality traits relate to the applications people download.
"It is becoming more and more apparent that smartphones are becoming a mini digital version of the user, and many of us don't like it when other people use our phones because it can reveal so much about us."
