NIGERIA - MAN DEMANDS #5M IN SUICIDE ATTEMPT. CLIMBS ELECTRIC POLE IN LEKKI LAGOS

Wonders pervaded the air yesterday as a Cameroonian who attempted suicide by climbing electric pole in Lekki area of Lagos, shocked residents when he demanded for N5 million or he would kill himself.
According to witnesses, when persuaded to come down from the PHCN pole, the Cameroonian, Frederic Gino, told the bewildered onlookers that he would only climb down if he got N5 million.

It was gathered that Gino had climbed  the electric pole in attempt to commit suicide, at Adebisi Ogunniyi Crescent, Lekki Phase 1.
According to eye witnesses, the man had been on the pole as early 5:30am and all efforts by the community to bring him down proved abortive.
He was, however, rescued by officials of Lagos State Emergency Agency in collaboration with officials of the state Fire Service.
The man sustained injury during the rescue attempt and was immediately taken to Oba Yekini Eleguishi Health Centre, Lekki Phase 1.
LASEMA General Manager,  Mr Michael Akindele, said that security operatives would conduct proper investigation into the matter.
He advised people to be vigilant  of strange faces and other activities around them,  as well as reporting such incident to security operatives or call the toll free line 767 or 112 for necessary assistance.
