INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission (INEC) has summoned security agents and other stakeholders such as the leadership of political parties, Civil Liberty Organisations (CLOs), IFES for an enlarged meeting tomorrow to
chart a way forward on the inconclusive governorship election in Bayelsa State.
A reliable source at the headquarters of the com- mission told Daily Sun after the meeting of national commissioners and the Chairman of the com- mission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in Abuja, that the situation has necessitated a meeting of stakeholders.
“INEC has decided to call an enlarged meeting of stakeholders involving IFES, leadership of all the political parties and the security agents to iron out wide ranging issues concerning the Bayelsa governorship election. The commission wants to strategise for the supplementary poll in Bayelsa with the stakeholders.
From the resolution taken after the meeting between the national commissioners and the INEC boss, the parley with the stake- holders will hold tomorrow. They equally resolved that the date for the Bayelsa supplementary election would be fixed after the meeting,” the source noted. Equally reacting to the election conducted under the new helmsmen ending inconclusive, the source said the decision was to ensure that all parties involved were given fairness and justice, adding: “INEC does not want to take decision that will look favourable to one party against the other. The commission wants to be fair to all concerned.”
