Nigeria - Kogi State government has declared Aug. 21 as a public holiday for citizens to thank God for safely returning President Muhammadu Buhari to the country.

The Director -General, media and publicity to the state governor, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, said it was to enable the people to give thanks to God for returning Buhari in sound health and sound mind.

Saudi Arabia says Qatar blocks planes from transporting pilgrims

Saudi Arabia on Sunday said Qatar had refused to allow its planes to land in Doha to transport Qatari Muslims to Mecca for the annual hajj pilgrimage.

“Saudi Arabian Airlines director general Saleh al-Jasser has said that the airline has thus far been unable to schedule flights to transport Qatari pilgrims from Hamad International Airport in Doha,” read a report on the SPA news agency.

Oh gosh! A Special Assistant to Benue State Gov. Ortom, assassinated

Nigeria - Gunmen suspected to be hired assassins this Sunday morning shot and killed Governor Samuel Ortom's Principal Special Assistant on Knowledge Economy and Investments, Dr Tavershima Adyorough.

Reports say he was killed at his residence in Makurdi.

The latest victim makes it two of Ortom's aides killed in similar manner as the first was the governor's Senior Special Assistant on Security, Denen Igbana.

Alas! Gastroenteritis is the unknown killer disease afflicting many in Kogi State

Nigeria - The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Audu, on Sunday said that the alleged unknown disease has been diagnosed to be gastroenteritis and therefore called for calmness.

The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lokoja that those so far diagnosed were found to be suffering from gastroenteritis and malaria.

Bangladesh sentences 10 to death for plot to kill Prime Minister

A Bangladesh court sentenced ten Islamist militants to death Sunday over a failed plot to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by detonating a huge bomb at one of her rallies.

The men were sentenced to death by firing squad for planting a huge explosive near where Hasina was scheduled to speak during her first term as prime minister in 2000, prosecutor Shamsul Haq Badol told AFP.

A car park wall has collapsed in Nottingham - leaving vehicles precariously close to a sheer drop.

Part of the wall came away at the NCP Nottingham City car park in Cumberland Place shortly after 4am.

Disaster as train derailment in India kills at least 23

At least 23 people have been killed and dozens injured after at least eight carriages of a train derailed in northern India.

Carriages slammed into each other as the train came off the rails near Muzaffarnagar district, in the state of Uttar Pradesh and about 80 miles north of India's capital New Delhi.

Nigeria - A ward chairman from Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi local government identified as Uwakwe Mmaduabukwu, on Saturday collapsed and died during the Anambra governorship primaries of the United Progressive Party, UPP.

All efforts to revive him proved abortive as many others were reportedly injured.

Buhari holds crucial closed-door meeting with Osinbajo and Security Chiefs in Aso Villa

Nigeria - President Muhammadu Buhari held a brief meeting with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, service chiefs and heads of other security agencies, following his arrival from London on Saturday.

The closed-door meeting was held at the president’s official residence inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
