Nigeria - The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Wilson Inalegwu, on Tuesday locked up the Kogi State House of Assembly Complex to prevent plenary from taking place.
Daily Post reports that a source said the development was an attempt to halt the planned removal of the Majority Leader of the House, Matthew Kolawole, who is said to be a staunch supporter of the state governor.

INEC set to challenge court order to stop recall of Senator Dino Melaye: Not succumbing to blackmail

Nigeria - The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, who is reportedly out of the country, has instructed that the Commission should challenge the court order stopping the Senator Dino Melaye‘s recall process.
In a statement released on Saturday, INEC said Yakubu is not, “succumbing to blackmail,” that was rumoured to have come from the Senate.

Kogi government hits back at Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu over Melaye's recall comments
Nigeria - The Kogi State government, yesterday, described as mischievous a statement credited to the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, suggesting that it is behind Senator Dino Melaye’s recall process.
The State noted that Ekweremadu’s remark that Melaye’s recall process by the people of Kogi West senatorial district was an exercise in futility was an indication that the deputy Senate president was ignorant of the constitution.

Other plaintiffs joined in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/601/2017, are Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, Hon. Shaibu Osune, S.T Adejo, Comrade Yahaya Ade Ismail, Chief Gbenga Ashagun, Ahovi S. Ibrahim, Ghali ND Usman, Isa Abubakar, I. Molemodile, Abubakr M. Adamu and Daniel Sekpe.

Nigeria - The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has said that the ongoing move to recall Senator Dino Melaye would be an exercise in futility if those orchestrating his recall fail to convince lawmakers why the senator should be recalled.
Making his contribution on a point of order raised by Senator Melaye to notify the Senate of the recall moves, Ekweremadu urged the Senate not to dissipate effort on a process that is tantamount to a waste of time.
