UPDATED: Governor Obaseki wins Edo election petition tribunal

Nigeria - The Edo state’s Election Petition Tribunal upheld the election of Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of the State on Friday.

According to NAN, delivering the judgment, Justice Ahmed Badamasi-led three member tribunal, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as lacking in merit.

The reasons for the president’s absence have largely remained unknown as there was no official position on that.

A British woman has been stabbed to death by a Palestinian man in Jerusalem, Israeli police said.

The woman in her early 20s was travelling on the Jerusalem Light Rail near Old City when she was attacked, officials said.

The tribunal upheld the September 28, 2016 election of Governor Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amaechi’s aide calls Lere Olayinka ‘disgusting pig’ over $50 million recovered loot

Nigeria - The media aide of Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, David Iyofor, has tackled Lere Olayinka, spokesman of Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, over the $50 million recovered by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in lkoyi, Lagos.

The anti-graft agency had released pictures of the money, saying it was uncovered in a fire proof safe at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi.

Fani Kayode alleges: Amaechi is the owner of $50million EFCC found in Lagos apartment

Nigeria - A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has claimed that the $50million found in a Lagos apartment by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), belongs to the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.

Fani-Kayode, who wrote this on his Twitter page, also dismissed reports that the money belonged to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Nigeria - National Chairman of People’s Democratic (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has alleged that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike gave former President Goodluck Jonathan N50 million to organise the recent stakeholders meeting in Abuja.

Sheriff who spoke through his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh at a news conference at the party’s secretariat on Thursday, said Governors Wike and Fayose recruited the Jonathan into a fake peace effort pre-determined to scuttle ongoing peace initiative in the party.

One killed, three wounded in shooting aboard Atlanta metro in US

A man opened fire aboard a moving Atlanta metro train on Thursday, killing one man and wounding three other passengers before the suspected gunman was arrested at the next station, a police spokesman said.

The gunfire erupted aboard a Blue Line train at about 4:30 p.m. shortly after it left a station on the city's west side, Joseph Dorsey, deputy chief of the MARTA police, said at a news conference. MARTA is the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

KABOOM!!! US drops 'mother of all bombs' on IS-held caves in Afghanistan

The governor of the area where the US military dropped the "mother of all bombs" has described the explosion as "the biggest I have ever seen".

The US military said it dropped the bomb on a series of caves used by Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan.

It is the first time this type of bomb has been used in combat, Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump said.

At least 24 dead after head-on collision between bus and fuel tanker in Mexico

At least 24 people have been killed after a head-on collision between a bus and a fuel tanker near the Pacific coast in southwestern Mexico.

The crash caused the tanker to explode, killing its driver and seriously burning some of the victims, while a few of the survivors managed to escape the burning vehicle
