Oh gosh! Two soldiers killed, 3 injured in shootout with heavily armed sea pirates in Bayelsa

Nigeria -  Two officers of the Nigerian army were yesterday killed in Bayelsa State after they responded to a distress call.

The Army said they were hit by the bullet when they exchanged fire with “heavily armed sea robbers.”

Spokesperson for the Army, Major Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen.

Really? Syria’s Assad says chemical attack ‘100 percent fabrication’

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said a suspected chemical weapons attack was a “fabrication” to justify a US military strike, as Moscow digs in to defend its ally despite increasing strains with Washington.

In an exclusive interview with AFP in Damascus — his first since the alleged April 4 attack prompted a US air strike on Syrian forces — Assad said his army had given up all its chemical weapons and that Syrian military power was not affected by the US strike.

Nigeria - The 7-month old girl who was raped by her 57 year old stepfather, Magaji Dansale, in Katsina state last month, has died.

The child reportedly died at the Turai Yar’Adua’s hospital thursday.

Zeenat Muntari, the mother of the baby had accused Dansale of raping his 7-months-old step daughter in Marmachi village of Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

KABOOM! NNPC sacks three Directors over N11bn missing petrol fund

 

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has fired three of its senior officials over their alleged involvement in N11bn missing fuel scandal.

Punch reports that the Corporation has deployed four others to man the vacant positions.

The report quoted the Corporation’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamadu, however, as saying the affected officials were retired, though no reason was given.

Nigeria - Sources on Wednesday told SaharaReporters that the $50 million uncovered in a residential building located at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) belongs to the sacked Managing Director, Operations at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue.

Nnamdi-Ogbue, was sacked alongside other three top Managing Directors at the NNPC over the ‘missing’ petrol scandal involving Capital Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited owned by businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah.

Eighteen American-backed fighters have mistakenly been killed in an airstrike by the US-led coalition in Syria.

Those who died south of the city of Tabqa were members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said the Pentagon.

The SDF is an alliance of Arab and Kurdish fighters who are battling Islamic State.

VP Osinbajo affirms: Magu doesn’t need Senate’s nod as EFCC chair

Nigeria - Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has declared that Ibrahim Magu does not need the Senate’s confirmation as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to function in that position.

Osinbajo who spoke at a media parley with journalists organised by the Presidency’s Office of Digital Engagement at his residence in Abuja, quoted Section 1, sub-section 71 of the Nigerian constitution as “evidence that the government need not even have produced Mr. Magu to be cleared by the Senate at all.”

Three people have been stabbed to death in London over 24 hours as figures show a surge in knife crime in the capital.

Two men, one 19 and the other 20, were killed within five minutes of each other on Tuesday after stabbings in Northolt in north London and Mile End in the East End.
