Two asteroids to pass by Earth in a day, says NASA

An asteroid double the size of the Shard will pass by Earth on Saturday night, NASA scientists have said.

The space rock, known as Asteroid 2000 QW7, is set to fly by around three million miles from Earth at 14,361mph, according to the US space agency's jet propulsion laboratory.

Wow! NASA to shoot Didmyos asteroid into new flight path in DART test

NASA is preparing its first ever mission to deflect an asteroid, a move the space agency hopes will provide lessons for how Earth can be protected from a potentially planet-destroying impact.
The spacecraft for the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is now moving to the design phase, and aims to demonstrate the "kinetic impactor technique" in which it will strike an asteroid and physically knock it into a different flight path.

KABOOM!!! We are probably not alone' as NASA finds 10 planets which could sustain life

The planets were discovered by the Kepler telescope

NASA has discovered more than 200 new planets and 10 of them are the right size and temperature to sustain life.
The distant worlds were discovered by the planet-hunting Kepler telescope which, in four years of searching, has discovered 49 planets in the so-called Goldilocks zone.

NASA predicts heavier rain in Nigeria, the tropics

Image result for NASA

NASA scientists in a new study of climate change said the latest predictive climate models underestimate future levels of precipitation in Nigeria and other places in the tropics.
The tropics are a region of the Earth surrounding the equator. The tropics are also referred to as the tropical zone and the torrid zone.

Wow! 'Super-Earth': The new planet is 'best candidate' to support life beyond solar system

Artist’s impression of the newly discovered super-Earth passing in front of its host star

Scientists searching for evidence of life beyond Earth say a newly discovered planet could be the most promising candidate they have found so far.
The so-called "super-Earth" is 39 light years away, outside the solar system, and, like Earth, thought to be around five billion years old - long enough for life to have evolved.
A light year is the distance light travels in a year - nearly six trillion miles.

Hey watch out today! Asteroid J025 will be largest since 2004 to pass close to Earth

Artist's impression of asteroid

Stargazers will be looking to the skies on Wednesday as an asteroid up to a mile wide passes by the Earth.
The asteroid, known as J025, will be the largest to come this close to our planet for the past 13 years.
It will pass within 1.1 million miles - just five times as far away from Earth as the Moon is - a close pass in cosmic terms.

Oh dear! Radar finds spacecraft Chandrayaan-1 which was 'lost' for eight years

The Satellite Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft

India's first unmanned lunar spacecraft which was considered "lost" in 2009 has now been located by a NASA radar.
The cube-shaped Chandrayaan-1, roughly half the size of a Smart car, was discovered orbiting the moon 124 miles above the surface.
The satellite, measuring about 1.5m (5ft) tall on each side, had circled the moon more than 3,400 times since it was successfully launched on 22 October, 2008.

Wow! SpaceX to fly two tourists around the Moon next year

The Moon may have been made from about 20 moonlets

SpaceX has announced plans to fly two private citizens around the Moon next year, in the first manned US mission since the 1970s.
The tourists, who have paid a "significant deposit" for the week-long trip, will travel using a spaceship being developed for NASA astronauts - as well as a heavy-lift rocket that is yet to be flown.
SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk said he hopes the privately funded flight - the first ever to travel beyond the International Space Station - will happen in late 2018.
