'Biblical' flash floods kill at least 15 in Greece

Flash floods killed at least 15 people, made scores homeless and destroyed infrastructure in Greece on Wednesday after a raging torrent inundated two coastal towns west of Athens following a night of heavy rain.


In devastation locals said was unprecedented in scale, an overnight deluge triggered flash floods in the industrial towns of Nea Peramos and Mandra in the foothills of a mountain just west of Athens.

Oh dear! Tourist dies while taking selfie



An American tourist Diannarosa Alduncin Delgado has died after falling off a cliff while taking a selfie on the Greek island of Zakynthos, police have said.
The 22-year-old Delgado who had dual American-Cuban citizenship, was on holiday with her boyfriend, Farid Mohsanshervin, also a U.S. citizen.

Former Greek PM Lucas Papademos hurt in Athens car bomb

Lucas Papademos served as Greece's prime minister between November 2011 and May 2012.



Greece's former prime minister Lucas Papademos has been hurt by an explosive device hidden in an envelope, according to police.
The 69-year-old was rushed to hospital following the blast inside a car in central Athens on Thursday.

Around 100 passengers were on board, reports say

A passenger train has derailed in northern Greece, leaving four passengers dead and at least five seriously injured.
The intercity train was travelling from Athens to Thessaloniki when it went off the rails near the station at the village of Adendro on Saturday night.

Awww... Jesus tomb in Jerusalem renovated for $4m



A Greek team has completed the restoration of the  Jesus tomb in Jerusalem  at a cost of $4 million.
The renovation lasted almost a year, the UPI reported.
The  tomb site is a cave where Roman Catholics and Orthodox Catholics believe Jesus was entombed and then was resurrected.

At 73, Dimitra - who herself once helped the hard-up as a Red Cross food server - is among a growing number of Greeks barely getting by. After seven years of bailouts that poured billions of euros into their country, poverty isn't getting any better; it's getting worse like nowhere else in the EU.

Growth gives Greece fresh ammunition against austerity



The Greek government on Tuesday welcomed the debt-laden country’s return to annual growth in 2016, using it for a fresh assault on austerity measures sought by its creditors.
The economy grew 0.3 percent last year, according to AFP calculations using early estimates from national statistics agency Elstat, despite a contraction in the last quarter.
The figure, in line with Brussels’ latest projection announced on Monday, marks only the second increase in annual gross domestic product (GDP) since 2008.

Oh dear!!! WWII bomb discovery forces evacuation in Greek city of Thessaloniki

Tens of thousands of people are staying away from their homes in the Greek city of Thessaloniki today while a 250kg unexploded World War II bomb is defused.
Hundreds of police officers have been knocking on doors to order people living within a roughly 2km radius of the bomb site to leave.
An estimated 75,000 people are set to evacuate the area, where a state of emergency has been declared.

Turkey military in 'cowboy tactics' against Greece

Greece has accused Turkey's military of "cowboy tactics" as tensions rise between the NATO allies.
It comes after a Greek court last week blocked the extradition of eight Turkish soldiers accused of involvement in the failed coup in July last year.
At the time, Ankara said it would review relations with Greece.
