Five electrocuted, four hospitalized while erecting a church’s billboard in Rivers


At least five young men have been reportedly electrocuted while trying to mount a billboard with a metal frame in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.


It was gathered that the tragic incident, which occurred on Monday, August 21 at Rumuosi Community in Obio/Akpor LGA of the state, left at least four others hospitalized at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).


According to reports, the victims were private businessmen who were contacted to mount a billboard for a Church along the Rumuosi axis, near the Obiri-Ikwerre flyover.


Some of the victims are welders who fabricate metals at the MCC along Ikwere Road close to the Federal Government College, Port Harcourt.


The team of nine men were said to have lifted the gigantic structure when its metal component touched the cable and immediately conducted an electric current.


The current was said to have gripped and shocked five of them to d£ath while four others were said to be battling for survival.
