As confirmed cases continue to rise, Lagos to start home treatment for “mild” coronavirus patients

Nigeria - Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced its plans to start managing coronavirus patients with mild symptoms at their respective homes.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, announced the move in a statement on Wednesday.
The commissioner said only infected persons with seàvere symptoms of COVID-19 would be admitted to isolation centres in the state going forward.
“We have exceeded the containment phase now. We are at the active community transmission stage,” Abayomi said.
“We will be concentrating on people with severe cases and isolating them while mild cases will be managed at home. Our attention is shifting to community based isolation,” he added.
As of Tuesday night, Lagos had recorded a total of 2,640 COVID-19 cases, out of which 1,961 were active cases.
Only Oyo State has announced similar decision to start managing COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms of the virus at home.
Governor Seyi Makinde had said the move was to avoid overwhelming isolation centres in the state.
“This also ensures that the isolation centres are available for those who need hospitalisation. However, we will keep tracking those self-isolating using technology to prevent community spread,” Makinde had said.
