Nigeria - Alhaji Kabir Umar, the Emir of Katagum Emirate in Bauchi State, has died at 89.
This was announced Saturday night in a statement by the state governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
Governor Abubakar said: “With a heavy heart, I’m sad to announce the passing on today, of one of our royal fathers, Alhaji Kabir Umar, the Emir of Katagum.
“He was upright, just and kept the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His death is a great loss to not just our state but also Nigeria.
“We take succour in the truth that “every soul shall taste death”. We pray that the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him paradise. Our thoughts and prayers are also with his family.”
The late monarch, who died on Saturday night after a protracted illness of five years, is survived by 49 children.
The funeral prayer and interment of the remains of the late royal father will hold tomorrow (Sunday) at his palace in Azare at 11:00 am
Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and other prominent government officials are expected to be in attendance.
