Nigeria - Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, yesterday told the Federal High Court, Abuja, that he did not commit any unlawful transaction with the former Publicity Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh.
Dasuki was NSA to former President Goodluck Jonathan between June 2012 and July 2015.
At the resumed hearing, Dasuki, who was led in evidence by counsel to Metuh, Onyeachi Ikpeazu (SAN), also told the court that he has not been charged or convicted of any unlawful act with respect to the first defendant.
He added that as former NSA, he was only answerable to the President.
Dasuki was for the second time, called to the witness box yesterday, following the refusal of the court to grant his application for adjournment.
Justice Okon Abang had said in his ruling that the refusal to grant the application hinged on the ground that the defense counsel would have used his skill to ask the witness relevant questions.
He added that there was sufficient evidence that would have enabled counsel to ask questions rather than apply for adjournment.
The judge said there was no provision in law for an adjournment to be granted to a witness who was not even a party to a matter to refresh his memory.
However, under cross-examination by counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Sylvanus Tahir, he (Dasuki) again, declined to comment on alleged transactions between his office and Metuh and his company Destra Investment Limited, without first checking his records.
Even when he was confronted with exhibits showing transactions between his office and the first and second defendants, Dasuki simply dismissed them as purported documents of a prosecution that is desperate to get a conviction.
