President-elect Donald Trump has hit out at his "sleazebag" opponents and Hillary Clinton in a new series tweets.
Mr Trump tweeted: "It now turns out that the phony allegations against me were put together by my political opponents and a failed spy afraid of being sued....
"Totally made up facts by sleazebag political operatives, both Democrats and Republicans - FAKE NEWS! Russia says nothing exists. Probably released by "Intelligence" even knowing there is no proof, and never will be. My people will have a full report on hacking within 90 days!”
He then moved on to criticise his former White House race rival and her presidential campaign, saying: "What are Hillary Clinton's people complaining about with respect to the F.B.I.
Based on the information they had she should never have been allowed to run - guilty as hell. They were VERY nice to her. She lost because she campaigned in the wrong states - no enthusiasm!"
The “phony allegations” to which Trump is referring, relate to a report written by former British ambassador to Russia, Christopher Steele, which claims Moscow holds incriminating material on Mr Trump which could be used to blackmail him.
The dossier, which contains numerous unconfirmed allegations, claims that Russians began to cultivate Mr Trump five years ago.
Mr Steele, an ex-M16 officer, was commissioned to compile the report by a Washington firm on behalf of Mr Trump's political opponents. Eventually, his memos reached the US intelligence services.
Mr Trump has dismissed it as "fake news", and suggested that the US intelligence agencies themselves are to blame for the leak.
Mr Steele, 52, now runs a London-based firm that conducts intelligence-gathering and risk-assessment, called Orbis Business Intelligence.
He is believed to be in hiding after fleeing from his Surrey home on Thursday, and reportedly “fears for his life” after being named as the author of the report.
